Senior Dog Wellness Care

Most small dogs are considered senior at 7 years of age. Larger breeds tend to have shorter life spans and are often termed senior between 5 to 6 years of age. Because older pets can have a variety of complex, age-related issues, we strongly recommend seeing your companion twice a year. This allows for more frequent screenings to detect problems early on.

Proper care for your senior dog should include:

  • Biannual physical exam

  • Vaccine recommendations tailored to your dog

  • Intestinal parasite screenings

  • Intestinal parasite deworming (if necessary)

  • Annual heartworm test

  • Senior screenings including chemistry profile, thyroid level, complete blood count, and electrolytes

  • Urinalysis

  • Blood pressure screen

  • Year-round flea and heartworm preventive
